Velocity Envelopes in Vegas 7

starmapper wrote on 12/21/2007, 12:26 PM
Can anyone tell me what the deal is with the velocity envelope in Vegas 7. When I pinpoint the exact starting and end points in the clip, and drag that part of the envelope down to slow the velocity of that poration of the clip, I find that the envelope has retarded that part of the clip. By that, I mean the part I had intended to slow down is now farther down the timeline. Can anyone tell me how to slow down the part to which I intended to slow, or, is it just hit or miss. Also, can anyone direct me to some indepth tutorials for Vegas 7 Pro? Any help will be welcome.

If you pick the end point before you slow down the footage, that end point will no longer be in the correct spot BECAUSE you slowed down the footage. Add the first part and slow down the footage. NOW find the end point and do whatever is needed.

I will try that. But should'nt the event become longer after slowing down? The event is still occuupying the same time space.

The timeline event only represents the portion of your footage that is being shown, not the entire clip. If you speed up a clip, it will loop (if that is your setting) to fill the space on your timeline.

Hi Starmapper,
I found some AWESOME tutorials from VASST for Vegas. They have some free ones on their site www.vasst.com, but the best stuff is in their Vegas DVD series - "Absolute Training for Vegas + DVD"
Not cheap, but worth every penny.

If you want the event to get longer, you'll have to make it longer. It doesn't change lengths automatically. However, I do have a tool in Excalibur that will essentially do waht you're saying.

Better to render the event out as you want it and then bring it back into the project without the envelope.
