Has anybody had problems with verbatim DVD-R's bought at Sam's Club? They are about half the price for a pack of 100 than anywhere else. But after using them, I am getting calls from people saying the dvd freezes, or just skips to the next scene. I don't ever remember having this problem when I bought them from other vendors.

So it maybe the disc's, or maybe even the SONY burner I am using. I can't firgue it out.

I buy these things. Nothing else, from nowhere else.

I've cranked out about 250 DVDs through the years with no problems attributable to the discs. Problems when they've occured have been with software, hardware, or my ignorance about proper procedures, etc.

I use the +R discs, by the way....

Maybe my Sony burners are waring out. I get no errors, but it seems to becoming more of a problem as time goes by.

I have also noticed their availability at Sam's, I usually buy Ritek from supermedia.com. Thought I could save money on shipping by going to Sam's. I would not think you would have problems with the -R media though. May you got a bad batch.

I believe you bought 8X Verbatim media made by Mitsubishi Chemical Corp.

Unless your media ID code is something other than MCC 02..RG2 you have reliable media. However read through this , find your burner, and use the same burn speed, etc. that the successful users tried.

Actually, it's 16x, but I burn them at 4x. Could that be the problem?

When I have trouble with clients complaining about freezing video or skip frames, etc it's usually because I burned them faster than 2X. Newer set top players probably won't care but older ones, especially the dual DVD and VHS tape combo, seem especially intollerant.

Ever since I started burning at 2x I rarely get any calls no matter what brand of media I've used.

I just noticed, that the ones from Sam's are not the data life plus, just the regular version. I use to use data life plus all the time with NO problems. Maybe the regular Verbatims are not as compatible?

I have burned about 30 of the Verbatim 16x discs (not DataLifePlus)with the Plextor 716a without any problems burning or viewing. I always burn at the rated speed. Don't know how long they will last but the area of burn really looks good compared to other burners. I normally use the Verbatim DataLifePlus 8x and have no problems with them.

Regular Verbatim (Datalife) DVD-R 16X media? Not "plus" type?

My first suggestion is to check the media ID code by downloading and installing DVDIdentifier. Then post the ID code here.
