version 6 vs version 7

I just upgraded to Vegas Pro 18 from Vegas Pro 12, only to find that DVD Architect is no longer included. I've found, through this forum that I can no longer buy it from MAGIX. Since I already have DVD Architect version 6, I was wondering if it would be worthwhile to try to track down an old box set which includes DVD Architect 7, or should I just stick with 6.

DVD Architect 6 was released by Sony Creative Software whereas DVDA 7 was released by MAGIX along with Vegas Pro 14, the first Vegas Pro release by MAGIX.

My understanding at the time was that DVDA7 was DVDA6 but rebranded under the MAGIX umbrella. The exception is that DVDA7 apparently did not include the AC3 Pro encoder (highlighted earlier this year in https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/dvd-architect-7-0--127445/#ca792597 ).

Version 6 was a free upgrade for version 5. It included some 3D disc functions -- but it was also notoriously buggy. Version 5 was much more stable.

Version 7 worked perfectly for me. If v.6 gives you problems, it would be worth tracking down v.7.

It really is a shame Magix discontinued the program. There really was nothing as simple and powerful for creating DVDs and BluRays.

I don't remember having problems with version 6 so it sounds like I might as well stick with it. I agree that it was a shame that Magix discontinued it. It was the reason I bought Vegas in the first place. Vegas is a great program for heavy duty editing but I had other editing programs I would usually use first if I didn't need all the bells and whistles as they were a lot easier to use. But nothing came close to DVD Architect for authoring DVDs. They should have looked at selling it to another vendor rather than discontinuing it.

@lnoland Not possible due to the fact that the code between VEGAS and DVDA is shared in many places. It was the same reason Sound Forge and Acid had to be included with the sale of VEGAS. Too much of the main code base would have to be given away to another company containing some very important proprietary features.
