Version 9.0c Program Hang w/MultiCamera

-tom wrote on 12/14/2009, 8:28 PM
Every time I enable a 4 camera HDV multicam edit, 9.0c locks up on me after a few seconds and freezes. After a few days of back and forth with support, uninstalling/reinstalling, cleaning the registry, adding RAM, increasing the pagefile, etc. I was convinced this was a Windows 7 x64 issue.
After giving up and going back to XP x64 and installing 9.0c, I was shocked to see the same lock up as on Win 7. Prior multicam projects that worked before would also freeze the program the same way.
I backed out 9.0c and reinstalled 9.0b and everything worked just fine.
I went back to Windows 7 and did the same thing, reinstalled 9.0b (always getting a "The Wizard has ended prematurely" message near the end of install, though the program seems to all be there). To my surprise, everything is now working fine under Win 7 x64 as well.
So it seems, at least in my case, the 'unsupported' version 9.0b works better (or at least doesn't crash) on Windows 7 for me.
If anyone else has experienced this same problem and suspected Win 7, try going back to 9.0b before going back to xp.

I have a few problems with 9.0c on Win 7 64 bit, and would like to try 9.0b

But how do you get 9.0b as it's no longer offered as a download from the Sony site?

Does anyone know?

Unfortunately, one can't have both 9b and 9c on the same OS at the same time. But one can use 8c and 9c on the same machine. I've given up editing on 9c, but don't like the crashes I get while rendering long projects with 9b.

The solution for me has been to use 8c for editing (I never had a problem with multicam work there, but haven't been using more than 2 cameras recently). After I get the project the way I want it, I save it in 8c under a new filename and then open it in 9c for rendering. So far, this two-step has been rock solid for me on Win7-64 bit.

Yes, this sounds like the way to go for now. I will try 9b for the edits and go back to 9c for the final. Thanks.

Tell me about it....9c is a nightmare with windows7...I pulled my hair out trying to do a multicamera edit due to the non-responsive bug that plagues you at every turn...I went back to 9b and all is good thus far, but sony needs to put out a fix as soon as possible...

Multicam on 9.0c and win7 is still a problem.
When can we see a permanent solution ? 9.0d ?

I have had the same "hang"-problem in 9.0c (on WIN 7 64bit). Reverted back to 9.0b and everything runs smoothly!!!

Version 9.0c is clearly dysfunct! Hoping for a fix in the hopefully soon to be released 9.0d!!! If the d version does not fix this problem, then I am really considering another editing system...

For me the hang was temporary at the beginning of the multicam setups. When Vegas 9c stops thinking about it , it comes back to life and no problems ediring the rest of the 4 camera projects. I am glad that I haven't experienced many of the problems you guys have in 9c. I don't know, it just seems to work for me. I have Win7 ultimate using a Q6600 quad core 2.4ghz with 8GBs Ram 500GB work drive 160GB OS drive and 200GB deep storage ADA drive. I also use an E-MU 1212m audio card (PCI), and NVideo GForce 9500 GT video card. I've been using Vegas fulltime since ver 5. I missed 6 but have had 7,8, and 8.1, then 9, all 3 versions.

I should be editing at this very moment - but no - Vegas 9.0c hangs (not responding) repeatedly for a minute of so, but this time seems to be for good.... So I have time to write my rant...

I had some AVCHD work to do. Vegas Pro 9.0b isfor me totally useless for editing AVCDH material (playback goes to a crawl at the beginning of each clip on the timeline). Therefore I decided to again load the latest version of VP (9.0c) on my machine (as we all know, both b and c versions cannot co-exist on a single OS), and I don't have the time nor interest to partition my hard drive and load another copy of the OS just to be able to use both revisions of Vegas). I thought that I could work with 9.0c. But no, the same problems reappear that I had before. I get frequent hangs for one or two minutes when previewing AVCHD on the timeline. This last hang seems to be infinite (now counting at 33 minutes). In this respect 9.0b was better (it did not hang), but the playback was ridiculously slow at clip boundaries.

PLEASE SCS - release the much avaited bug fix version 9.0d NOW!!!

If that version exists it is probably ready to ship and SCS has decided to wait until NAB - for at better WOW-factor? Meanwhile I am suffering, and many other people with this same problem are suffering... I am really badly frustrated at this very moment. I have been re-installing Vegas and been editing for 8 hours without getting very much done at all. Loosing both time, money, and my hair!!! My relation with Vegas starts to resemble alove-hate relationship... Gee how I miss the stability of Vegas 6...

Now 40 minutes later Vegas is still not responding, using a steady 25% of the CPU time doing NOTHING!!! I have to pull the plug and loose some work - again.... aaaaarghhhh... I'm tired of this **censored**....

Same problem here, I have been waiting months for the update, I basically save just about every edit I do when working with multicamera projects due to the non response bug, I got tired of loosing lots of edits when it froze and required a restart of the program...I have learned to live with it for now....

My situation is like Wilgen. Never really had a problem with multicam in VP9.0c. I've used as much as 8 cams in some of my avchd editing projects. My workflow consists of using NeoScene to convert .m2ts files to .avi files for editing. I then use VASST's InfinitiCam plug-in for the multicam setup. Current computer is an i7-920 oc'd to 3.8 GHz, 12 GB ram. Rendering for sd-dvd & hd-dvd delivery hasn't been a problem either.
