Very intimidated by Vegas 10's Project Properties

For "Pixel Format" and the "Adjust source media to better match project or render settings". Will they have any influence on my output video once it's been rendered?

Is it okay if I leave the Pixel Format on 8-bit for any video resolutions like 640X480 and 1280X720, or will it decrease the video quality after the output?

For "Adjust source media to better match project or render settings", should I check or unchecked it? I have no idea what adjustment it makes. Is there always a chance it will decrease the video quality?

Thank you so much.

It's likely that your source video is recorded at 8 bit. If it was lower, it wouldn't hurt to leave your project settings at 8 bit. I'm hoping that if your video was recorded at 10 bit or higher then you would know it. Download a free application called Mediainfo that will tell you the bit depth of your source along with other important details. Bit depth describes the number of bits used to store the color and alpha channel information for each pixel (R=8 bits, G= 8 bits, B=8 bits, A=8 bits). The product of the pixel dimensions (640x480, 1280x720) determines how many RGBA samples per frame of video.

There is a discussion with examples in the middle of this thread.
