Very Jerky .avi renders

Hello group,

Using SVMS 4.0a with P4 1.8hz, 1meg ram, plenty of HD space. I'm putting various clips, either .avi or mpegs into timeline with corresponding audio.

I'm having a few problems in my finished renders that are stumping me.

1. When I "make movie" to .avi format, with any template setting, AND FAST VIDEO RENDER turned off, - the finished avi file is very jerky, and plays about 10 frames, pauses, plays 10 more, pauses etc. video and sound are synced and play stop and go all the way through. A one minute rendered avi clip with take over 2 minutes to playback!

2. This jerky pausing only happens in .AVI. If I render to mpeg 1,2 the clips play fine.

3. IF I render to .WMV, the finished file drops the audio. The video renders fine with no corresponding audio. If I then make a .wav of the sound off the timeline, I have to join them in XP-MM2. I bought Sony Vegas MS to get away from MM2. Why is the audio dropped?

any insights into these problems, cause and corrections, is much appreciated. As an editing package, it is SVMS is awesome, but so far I am underwhelmed the finished renders.

thanks all.

1 - Are you rendering to uncompressed AVI? If so, these files may be too huge for your computer to read and display in real time. Render to DV .avi. The resulting files will be about 1/8th the size and very nearly the same quality.

2 - This is probably because the MPEG files are much smaller and don't tax your computer as heavily.

3 - There are custom options available when rendering that allow you to include/exclude audio and/or video. Are you sure you haven't gone into the custom options and turned off the audio when you render?
