VFR problem

mateusz-k wrote on 5/30/2019, 5:42 AM

Hi. File that I have to work with has 6 frames pre second, probaly due to variable frame rate. It was captured with Snagit. During watching in media player it look normaly but when I import file into Vegas Pro 15 video seems to be slower. Is it possible to 'repair' this clip to look the same in constant frame rate?

I don't work with video, it's something complitly new to me.

I think you try to look to that file on a track in a project of Vegas 15.
For minor help you have to deliver answers to B 1and 2, C1, 2 and 3 of this topic: https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/important-information-required-to-help-you--110457/

vegas 15 can't handle vfr of that sort of variance. vp16 can. You could try using a transcoder to encode to be CFR. it should work fine with vegas pro15 as long as the transcoder respects the VFR values

Thanks, I downloaded your file and tried all kind of solutions but my best was to use Handbrake to convert that file to a constant framerate with the original framerate of 15fps. In Handbrake choose a template through the Production Max option and than change the framerate to 15 frames per second.

I did this with your file and it plays smoothly with 15fps in such a project of my Vegas Pro 15 build 416.
This is the link to my dropbox where you 'll find the converted file also:

There's a tool in HappyOtterScripts https://tools4vegas.com/ called ImportAssist that can help.

HOS can do both rewrapping and transcoding. Since you have VFR footage, there is also an option to convert to a constant frame rate. The video is unchanged--only the timecode is altered. There is no transcoding and loss of quality that inevitably occurs. I downloaded your footage and it successfully changed the footage back to its original 15 fps. In fact, I'm surprised it worked so well given the great variation in frame rate. Here is a demo of the conversion process.

The beta period for HOS has been extended to 1 Aug.

As a side note, I imported the original clip into V16 and while it "plays", it sets the frame rate to 5 fps, a third of what it should be.

AKA the HappyOtter at https://tools4vegas.com/. System 1: Intel i7-8700k with HD 630 graphics plus an Nvidia RTX4070 graphics card. System 2: Intel i7-3770k with HD 4000 graphics plus an AMD RX550 graphics card. System 3: Laptop. Dell Inspiron Plus 16. Intel i7-11800H, Intel Graphics. Current cameras include Panasonic FZ2500, GoPro Hero11 and Hero8 Black plus a myriad of smartPhone, pocket cameras, video cameras and film cameras going back to the original Nikon S.

Thank you all for fast help. I've used handbrake and it works nice. I was able to easy synchronize cfr video to audio.
