The general concensus is to use a DV media converter and a 1394 firewire card for the highest quality, trouble-free captures. The favorite is the Sony DVMC-DA2 Media converter (now discontinued) but other converters should work just as well. You can also use a DV camcorder with analog inputs (that's what I use).

Generally, trying to capture analog video with a cheap analog capture card will result in:
a) huge files
b) out-of-sync audio
c) poor quality
d) lost hair
e) all of the above

Go digital!

I purchased Dazzle (Capture, Edit and Share Video) Converter today. Will this work? This is what Best Buy told me I needed???
Thanks for your help.

The best DV/Analog converters are:

Sony DVMC-DA2 Media converter

and

Canopus ADVC-100

If you are picky about quality, get one of these two units. No substitutes.

If the two mentioned about are the best, what would say is the next level. I'm saving for a DV camera with pass-through so don't want to spend $300 on a converter. What would you say are the best "value" converters?

If you are saving for a DV camera, get a camera that has svideo-in, and you can use the camera as the converter.

I am trying to use my sony dv camcorder with the following input (audio/video ID-2)and (DV in/out). I am not getting feed to my camera. Video Factory is recognizing my Sony Camcorder and VCR, but not getting picture or sound to camera or pc. What could be the problem. THanks for your help.

Does the Canon Elura allow for pass-through? I tried with RCA plugs from my VCR, but it I couldn't get pass-through to work, so I recorded to the camera first, then captured the footage from the camera. The camera does have an Svideo-in. Is that the key, to use that? Do you use Svideo for video and RCA plugs for audio? Thanks.

That is correct Canopus is fantastic. I spent alot of time with Dazzle Hollywood bridge but I had major sound sync problems. Sync is perfect with Canopus.

There is a misconception about analog. Perfect example. Vinyl records compared to CD. Clean vinyl on a great turntable with a top of the line stylus sounds better to me than CD. Obviously I refer to virgin , fresh vinyl. Anyway case in point. I have about 20+ Hi 8mm tapes. (analog) Obviously my objective is to use a program to edit all of them and transfer back to VHS. What a nightmare! I must have bought 4 different Dazzles (Movie star I think it's called), one Pinnacle and finally Dazzle Dv Bridge. Every single one of them gave me a hard time. Ironically I heard about Canopus via a Video Wave forum topic and presto....I can edit and transfer with a smile.
