Vid Background Showing Thru

When I add jpg or text to the Timeline, I can see the video in the tracks below in the timeline as strips along the top and bottom of test or jog.
Is there a way to suppress the strips?; Can I expand the text/jpg's to remove this? Or must I make the video track(s) to max opacity at the point I want to put a text/jpg?

Thanks for any advice.

I'm guessing that you are inserting text as a still image rather than using the text generator function. What size are you making these images? Is there any chance you're making them 720x480? If so, make them 654x480 instead. You can also open up Pan/Crop for the images, right-mouse-click on the Pan/Crop grid, and choose Match output aspect ratio.

Thanks for that. Yes, it opened my eyes to additional settings for NTSC, PAL, Multimedia, etc. I found that the project properties were not set, and when I set them to PAL (used here in Australia) then all the jpgs were skewed.

I reset them all to PAL, and all was well. I am getting a strip down each side, but this is less noticeable.

Just shows that one needs to set the project properties EARLY rather than later. It does mean that I need to do a version of movie for each TV standard type.
