Vid from Canon still cam crashes Vegas

Hi All,
I grabbed a short movie clip with my Canon A720IS digital still camera to check out the 640x480x30fps video quality.
It has an .avi extension but when imported into V4.0e, crashes to the desktop when I hit play. The error is memory related.
When I right click to see the properties of the clip, Vegas reports Black Magic HD 8bit?? (It's definitey not that!)
The camera manual indicates that it opens with the Quicktime player and, indeed, it does. Windows media player has audio and a scrambled picture.
Any suggestions on how to get Vegas 4.0e to read this file?

You need to install a MJPEG codec. You can use the MainConcept demo: when you encode, you'll get a watermark, but for reading (which is all you want to do), it will work fine.

There are other MJPEG codecs as well. Just search this forum for "MJPEG," although the search function on this forum is so completely broken that it has become pretty much useless.
