It's pretty simple. I guess if you have no experience with it.. then you haven't ever captured video from a firewire camera?

It gets the job done... but it could be a more "robust" application than it is.

Many people (I'm not one of them) use Scenalyzer Live to capture from firewire as that has some nice additional features.

Seen quite a few posts about VidCap 'freezing' or 'not responding' after capture.

. . Ah, go on answer Liam's question? So how ARE you getting your stuff into your PC now anyway?

. . . Okay I'll bite . . .

I like to think I'm fairly open-minded about s/w. I'll entertain new and whizzy GUIs along with the best of them! BUT, if I find something that works, is crucial to what I need to do, proves itself and has some form of development/improvemnt path/route I tend to be quite conservative.

VidCap? For me, and since VideoFactory HAS been a love<>hate relationshp.

Example: Now in V6 - might have been in V5 too - we get a warning that "No capture directory is set up and would you like to do it now?" well that is great! There was a time, and not long ago, that IF I hadn't set up a caprutre directory I'd get the silly warning that "No DV Device was connected"! Duoah! ? ?! This drove me bonkers . .. Oh, please read my thread on renaming clips and such! That's a REAL hoot! Then there is the "Ignore min clip length" which I need to set to 1 sec otherwise I get grief.

VidCap? Ah, yah gota love it! - Now I use it in a very "cold" fashion . . bit like divorced partners meeting 10 years later in a Pub, restaurant or party and share pleasantries, along the lines of, " . .and so, how ARE you? . . . That is really interesting! (NOT!) . . Sorry, go to go, just seen . ... haven't seen them for a while! Let's do lunch .. sometime . . . yeah?" - THAT kinda relationship!

My adivse? Use VidCap. Use it with respect and don't do anything "fiddly" with it. Use it and "Say thank you very much - gotta go!" and move on to the real thang! Editing and having fun!

Best regards,

Grazie
