VidCap error

Randy Brown wrote on 8/25/2003, 12:39 PM
Hey everyone,
I've been getting an error "error 0X800705aa (message missing)" when trying to capture. Sometimes right when I click "capture video" and sometimes after I've (thought I had) captured several minutes. I'm capturing through a VIA 1394 compliant card from a Canon XL1s using the latest 4.0d (build 205). Any thoughts?
thanks,
Randy

I would suspect "VIA".

1) Are you using the Microsoft drivers instead of the VIA drivers? If not, try that.

2) Can you try a standard OHCI card such as SIIG, Pyro, ...

Hey Jet,
It appears to be using MS version 5.1.2535.0 but with a date of 7/1/2001. I'll go look for another driver and if that doesn't work I'll try another card.
Thanks Jet,
Randy

FWIW, I copied this from the event viewer in case it tells anyone something:

Two things for sure:

1) You WANT a card that is OHCI standard.

2) You WANT the Microsoft drivers.

I have both...do you reckon a reinstall could make any difference...or maybe another PCI slot?
Actually when I think about it I've had really rough playback on my external monitor too (using a TVone converter (which is like the Canopus converter)), which I didn't have on my old system. Firewire cards are cheap enough, what card (or hub) would you suggest?
Thanks again Jet,
Randy

I've been out checking on firewire cards and hubs. Some of them are advertising 400 M/S (OHCI compliant of course) and boasting "Support for digital video in full size full motion video of 720 by 480 pixels at 30 frames per second" in their specs. Couldn't that resolve my rough playback issues on my external monitor? While I'm at it do you guys know if these 6 port hubs are something you plug into your existing card?
Thanks again,
Randy
