VidCap: freezing..!

FuTz wrote on 2/14/2004, 1:01 PM
When I turn on my cam to capture, the whole system freezes. If I turn it off, it instantly goes back to normal : ???
In fact, turning the cam on freezes the sytem, Vegas being on or not. Even without running any program...

I tried re-opening Vegas with cam already on / with cam off then on when VidCap asks for it: no success.

Win2K,sp4...

Try another firewire device if possible,, may be your card

Make sure the camera is the only Firewire device connected (no firewire drives or scanners). See if that makes a difference.

I tried just plugging the cam (ie no ext. hard drives, etc...) and the same thing happens. I also tried all the outputs of the FireWire card ...
I run Win2K, SP4
Athlon 1000
Abit KT7 raid card (NO raid setting though...)
ADS tech 1394 card
Promise card for 4 more drives
M-Audio delta 44 sound card
Matrox Millenium G450
768Mo memory

Bizarre behavior: it never did that before. I reinstalled whole system then this problem happens.
I'll try it on my laptop, it went very well so maybe the problem's from the cam itself..?

Ok now, on my laptop (Vaio frv35) it is working (after plugging-unplugging-plugging-un...the 1394 cable /these damn connectors are so fragile...).
VidCap won't work with this daisy chain though (captures 0 frame then capture window pops up). Daisy chain with one ext drive work a1a. Now with two drives it bugs... Cam being plugged at the end of chain of course...
Concerning my desktop, it's probably my system that's got a bug... or something I don't get with Win2K...

Vid Cap works on this daisy chain setup IF I capture to the LAST ext drive. With the first drive in the chain, it doesn't work...
Ooo-eee, at least I can capture something now... I'll just move the files to the other drive after capture...
