I don't believe there is a quality loss when going uncompressed, but its defiantly not the method. Stick with avi, it has a whole lot more benefits and the quality loss is minimal. It would take hundreds upon hundreds of renders and re-renders to notice any degradation with the human eye.

AVI can use pretty much any codec... You should say "stick with AVI using the DV codec".
