Video 0KB and doesn't play after Vegas 15 crashed whilst rendering

Hello everyone,

I have Vegas Pro 15 and i made a video and realized i forgot the outro. I put the mp4 file back into Vegas and added the outro onto it. Then, just before rendering the video, I saved the updated video at the same place as the original video when it says replace file in this destination. Then, whilst the video was rendering it crashed. I had to restart my computer, and the "updated video" was not playing and had a file size of 0KB. I decided to look on the internet for possible solutions and tried the obvious of looking for an auto save file but there wasn't any, only auto save files from videos I'd made before. I also tried restoring previous versions of the file but that didn't work :(. Just so everyone knows, the error code i got when trying to open the 0KB mp4 file was 0xc10100be

I would appreciate your help.

You'll have to re-edit whatever you did... when the encode crashed, it didn't finish writing the data to the new file, so that file is worthless now. If you don't have the project file saved, and there is no auto save, there isn't much we can do to help you. My recommendation, any time you go to render a video in vegas, follow these steps to ensure not just better stability, but also better performance:

1. save your project before doing anything.

2. reboot your PC or at least reboot Vegas

3. before opening the project, open the render dialog box in a blank project and then close it again. once in a while vegas can hang when you click render, this reduces the chance of that happening (at least it seems to).

4. open your project and render it.

That way you know that any programs running in the background that could be eating up resources have been closed, Vegas is starting with a clean slate, which reduces the chance of something going wrong.

If your render still crashes, there are a number of helpful threads that can help you diagnose the problem in this forum. Check the sticky ones first. After doing that, post in this thread what is going on, your mediainfo (instructions in those sticky threads I mentioned), project settings, render settings, windows version, GPU driver version and full system specs. That will help us help you get the issue sorted.
