Video and audio not in sync

Folks -

Recently I have ben experimenting with capturing some satellite TV stuff on my ATI Radeon 9700 and saving to a combination of Mpeg2 files and AVI files.

When I have rendered these to either Mpeg2 or AVI, I have included the audio in the render. In several of my experiments, I have noted that the audio has gotten behind the video. What am I doing wrong? Should I be rendering audio separately?

The Radeon capture cards are not very robust. They all have this problem. Usually, however, it is very easy to correct. You will probably find that when you place your captured video on the Vegas timeline that the audio is slightly shorter than the video.

To get the audio to sync correctly, first ungroup the audio and video (press "U" on your keyboard). Then, click on the trailing edge of your video event. Your cursor should now be aligned exactly with the trailing edge of the video. Next, move the audio event to the right so it now aligns exactly with the trailing edge of your video. Select both the audio and the video and then press "G" to re-group them. You should now have a gap at the beginning of your event that is precisely the same length as the gap that used to be at the end. You can split the event and trim off the few frames at the beginning. The key thing is, the audio should now be in sync.

Takes much, much longer to write about it than to do it.

I keep hoping the new Catalyst drivers will fix this problem, but I doubt it. ATI's drivers leave a lot to be desired.

Thanks a million! I thought I was going crazy...

The odd thing is that if I simply play the capture AVI or MPEG2 using media player (before mucking with Vegas), audio and video appear to be properly in sync...?
