Video & Audio won't move together when selected

darizonah wrote on 9/21/2003, 10:11 PM
I have some clips added that when I select the video , the audio won;t select at the same time so I can trim them together. I have done 3 projects in the last month and this is the first time I have had this. I am not sure how to correct this without deleting and re adding the clip. When I did the added clips worked fine. Any thoughts on what might have caused this or how to correct it?

Thanks
Dave

Events (including the audio and video from the same clip) can become "Ungrouped" by pressing the letter "U" on the keyboard. Once ungrouped, the can be moved independently. To regroup them, click on the video event so that it becomes the only event selected. Then, while holding the Ctrl key, select the audio event. Now that the two events are the only two events selected, press the "G" key on the keyboard to group the two events. They will now move together.

If the audio has become unsynchronized, I think there is a trick to get it resynchronized without having to drag it back from the media pool (and lose any effects, etc. that you have have added. Unfortunately, I can't remember that trick right now.

I suppose one option if you need to resync the clip is to add it as a take. You might try that although there are probably a number of reasons this won't work.

As John says, the simplest thing is to group the two parts back together.

Vegas treats all grouped objects the same. If you take a bunch of events and group them together and then later ungroup them they will become completely ungrouped. Audio comes ungrouped from video just as everything else comes ungrouped.

It's a shortcoming and a good reason to just not bother with grouping things. However, play with grouping and get the hang of what it can and can't do (and what it doesn't do in any useful way). As long as you know just how it will bite you you'll be fairly safe.

You have Ignore Event Grouping turned on. It's the tool that looks like an unshakled lock.
