video capture

I have Vegas 4 and last night the video capture stopped working properly. What happens is that it will only capture for a very brief time usually between 10 sec -1 1/2 minbutes and then just quits.
It's not showing any dropped frames, the drive I'm capturing to has just been defragged. I also tried another capture program Scenalyzer, a demo version,
which worked with out any issues. Have you guys any idea what could be causing this?

Thanks for any help.

Have you changed any hardware, software lately? Darryl

I just unchecked the box that says stop capture when frames are dropped and I see that resolved the problem of vidcap stopping and I am in fact dropping frames. I also noticed when I grab the vidcap window and move it my dropped frame rate increases quite a bit and and my cpu rate goes from around 75% to 99%. Any ideas what is up?

Thanks Darryl, no the only thing I did was defrag my drives yesterday. I'm doing a live capture so there is no tape involved. On second thought my 14 year old son sometimes usus this computer so I guess anything is possible as far as new down loaded software.

Sounds like you're overtaxing the CPU when you muck about with the vidcap window. ANY background applications or IRQs run the risk of interfering with the high data flow required of vidcap or print to tape. This Sony Knowledge Base article gives the skinny.

Thanks again for your help Darryl.
Resolved the dropped frame issue. I use several removable drive trays and found that either the tray or the drive in one of them is faulty. Although it wasn't the drive I was capturing to it is deffinetley the culprit because after removing it no more dropped frames.
