video capture

Hi everybody. I shot a show a couple days ago in the ballpark 4 hours. Video capture I am using is the one that's a free download (pny?) and comes with the Sony camera. HDR XR 150.
it captures everything fine but in little segments. That makes it a little unwieldy. I plug the camera into the computer but Vegas Pro 11 didn't recognize the camera. (it works fine with that software however) Am I stuck with that program or are there better ones on the market on the net or anywhere?

Thank you

Westside Steve

See if you can find an option that reads ( Scene Detection ) or something similar..
Such an option is common for capture utilities..

HDVSplit is a free capture utility that is often recommended here..

AVCHD cameras are usually handled by Vegas Device explorer. This way video that has been spanned over several files will be imported properly too. Press ALT+7 to open the device explorer... I think.

>>it captures everything fine but in little segments.<<

Download the free "tsMuxerGUI v.2.6.12" and it will merge the little segments together into one file usable by Vegas Pro.

Due to the file system used with Sony cameras, all video will be stored in chunks no larger than 2GB. Scenes that will fit in 2GB will be in one file, but longer scenes will be cut into 2GB segments with the last usually being less than 2GB. The problem is to combine the segments of long scenes back into a single file. There are several ways to do this, but you must do it correctly or else you will get a short dropout at the joins.

Sony used to supply PMB (picture motion browser) but now it is called Play Memories Home (Ugh!). If you use it to transfer your movies, all scenes will appear in single files.

If you are talking about joining scenes (individual recording sessions) into a single file then that has to be done by some other process.

Correction: CTRL+ALT+7 will bring up the Device Explorer.

Yes it is play memories home.
(sorry, brain fart)
Thanks.
I'll look at some of the other utilities.

As I mentioned earlier, you shouldn't need any additional software. Have you tried the device explorer as I suggested? I have Sony's PlayMemories, it came with the AX100 but I uninstalled it a minute after I installed it; it's a toy.
