video capture not working in Vegas Pro 12 (64-bit)

I'm working on a HP dv7 laptop running Vista. Video capture suddenly stopped working. Message says that it wasn't shut down properly, and asks if I want to load the previous project. No matter whether or not I load the previous project, video capture stops working and disappears. Any ideas on how I can regain control of video capture? I just uninstalled Vegas and re-installed it. No help. Firewire is my only way of getting the video into Vegas...

Thanks.

I assume you are capturing HDV? If so, try HDVSplit. It's a free software and better for HDV capturing anyways. If that also doesn't work, you may have an issue with your firewire port.
