Video Capture Program lag on win2k??

I have a brand new P4 1.5 Mhz, 256 MB ram, 20 GB 7200 HD, 100 GB 7200 HD and a Pyro IEEE 1394 card. I was using a Canon Zr10 from my college to capture some miniDV tapes for editing purposed and I ran into a very annoying problem with the Video Capture Program for Vegas Video 2.0 (both VV2 and capture are updated as well as directx and microsoft codecs)

THe video capture program seems to "lag" while doing anything. You can drag the mouse cursor over a menu item or play button, and it takes awhile for it to react to the mouse going over it. While capturing, playing, or rewinding, the time is lagged as well... any one know why this is happening? My old PC, a p3 600 mhz ran video capture fine... whats going on? I'm still getting artifacts as well, but I think that may be the bad fuji tapes im using (and never buying again)... any help would be appreciated.

a little follow up to my problem, I own a Sony Digital8 camocorder and tried that with the new PC and it seemed to work fine. No lag like I had gotten with the ZR10.. maybe my setup just doesnt like the canon, or something is wrong with it since It is rented out to many other students.. who knows.. I am just glad I think my setup is OK now. I guess I will find out when I capture my 15 hours of Digital8 footage! lol.

On certain models of Canons, the device communication takes a bit longer, for device status.
