I am having a number of problems with Vegase 4.0 video capture when it starts up. I have re-installed Vegas 4.0 a few times, and this cures the problem, but then a few days or a few weeks later, the problem comes back. This time, the problem has gotten even weirder than before.
Symptoms:
1. The first indication of a problem is that I keep getting the following message just before Video Capture first appears on the screen:
"Video Capture has detected that it was not shut down properly. Would you like to load the previous project?"
I get this despite the fact that when I closed down Video capture the last time, there was not any problem.
2. After having problem #1 for awhile, I then start getting Windows GPF messages when closing capture. I use Windows XP Pro, SP1. Here is the message:
"vidcap40.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience."
3. The newest problem is that Video Capture now has decided to run itself every time I startup windows. I have run MSCONFIG, and sure enough, there it is in the Startup tab. I can eliminate this problem easily, of course, but since I didn't ask it to start up, I wonder what did.
I am currently back to using the original Vegas 4.0 direct from the CD because I had problems with 4.0c. In have uninstalled and re-installed three times, and each time this cures the problem, but this exercise is getting old, and sooner or later the SOFO registration process will refuse to license my product and I'll have to call tech support to get an extension (I've had to do this before on other SOFO products). This is no big deal, since tech support is quite good, but it's another ten minutes I'd rather spend doing something else.
Does anyone (especially SOFO) have any ideas?
Thanks!
P.S. I have the ATI Radeon All in Wonder 8500DV card running the 8.x MMC drivers. I have virtually no programs loading at boot time (I don't even have anti-virus software installed).
P.P.S. I have tried resetting Video Capture to it's default settings by pressing Shift while selecting "Preferences" and then setting "Reset all settings on startup" to TRUE. However, since closing Capture generates a GPF, apparently the settings never get reset.
