Video Capture works., Vegas don't

Hi, I use Vegas 4 on Windows XP with a DV capture card that can hold four cables. "Video Capture" works well, but Vegas will not allow me to preview or to print to tape.

I read once that the more sockets a capture card has, the more unstable it is. I guess that's true cause a three socket card works fine. Still if "Video Capture" works, then "Vegas should also. Please tell me how to fix this problem.
Thanks

Some external Firewire drives (Western Digital older drives) can cause a problem with preview and print to tape, but still allow capture to work. If you have an external Firewire drive, disconnect it and try again. (I verified this a few weeks ago, and sent my WD drive back on an RMA. They fixed it and the problem went away).

You can also have this problem if you have your camera set for DV IN instead of DV OUT (or maybe it is the other way around). Check the menu on your camcorder and see if you have a menu item that determines which way the video will go. This is mostly for analog capture, but it can affect Firewire transfer as well.

What card do you have? If it is Pinnacle, you have to load the standard windows drivers or it won't work.

HI Guys,
Thanks for the response.
I believe it has something to do with the drivers.

On "Windows ME" I can capture and print. Providing I boot the computer with the camcorder on.

On "Windows 2000" The computer freeze each time I try to Capture or print.

On "Windows XP" I can just plug in the camcorder and capture at any time. However When I try to preview or print, "Vegas" acknowledge that there is an external monitor/recorder connected. But the camcorder doesn't receive any signal.

Ps. the camcorder's settings are correct. It's just the Version of "Windows" that makes the difference.
The capture card I use is just a plain ordinary β€œVia” Brand.

look like you both need to update the driver to OS you are using.
Trow the ME in garbage can-that it is the place where belongs.
