video caputure setting

I love this program! After using videowave 5 for a few years its a nice change to see an intuitive software that works! My only fustration is with the video capture. It seems to default to its own settings everytime I open it up. Each time I need to change the video capture size and the audio settings to use line only. I'm using a ati aiw 32mb card with a soundblaster 16pci card. If I leave the default settings for the card set to mix I get this weird live effect in the audio like I'm talking down a deep well. I've tried the save settings under file but I'm sure what is saves???

Also is it better to capture at a higher resoltion than your producing? If I want to create a vcd or mpg1 file should I capture at 720x480 and then render to 250x352? So far I've done the most logical and captured at the same size I want to produce but I thing the vcd could be a better quality. All my capture is uncompressed so I'm not too worried since I should look better on vhs tape.

thanks
Ian
