New Video cards on the way very soon. I would wait and get one of the new ones. Look up NVidia, you should find some info about them.

I can muddle through with one monitor for the time being if it's worth the wait.

checked cable, monitor, etc?

losing one port seems rather weird....

Realtively new? Which brand? No warranty?

Like everybody said, it sounds really strange that you lost one port. As for the new cards, you've got the choice between the Radeon 7970 or wait for a while for whatever NVidia will release as their response to the 7970.

nVidia's new 28nm core cards are coming soon, but there's always more powerful versions that come in several months after the initial release with more video memory etc..., that being said, I'd at least wait till you can see what difference the new nVidia cards bring. They're supposed to basically double the current cards with lower power consumption, heat, noise, etc... and if that's true *IF* that's true, then you're definitely going to have wished you had waited assuming no big projects looming.

One of monitor ports not functioning.

How did you check that it wasn't working? I'm assuming you've swapped the output of the port over to another monitor to check, cables and all?

Dan? Back in this thread you said you had an issue installing driver: "tried to install 285.62 but won't install."

Could this be part of your port issue? nVidia has some excellent diagnostics stuff for free.

@FrigidNDEditing:

Do you have some links to what you are describing? I just bought an overclocked GTX580 but can return it. Any idea of the time frame for these newer cards?

TIA,

Tried again to load 285.62 driver and success this time!
LG monitor still not functioning.
I think it's pooched, but will get a techie to check it out.
My three-year-old grandson (bless his little heart) is attracted to the blue light on the monitor and likes to turn it off and on between papa's scoldings.
Research shows capacitors? can die and the monitor can be repaired, but for almost the cost of a new one.
My main monitor is the Asus ProArt.
But still miss the convenience of duelies.
Maybe that's why the old CRT is still sitting in the garage.
I have again activated the GPU funtion.
Here we go!
