Video CD Won't Play

I used analog capute to make my first movie. I'm new to this so be nice if I've repeated a topic. I just rendered video to .wmv file wich worked fine. However, my 18" LCD monitor revealed the low-res nature of the video. So, I was curious to see it on TV. I used the Make Movie wizard to burn a VCD (this wizard does not yet annoy me because I currently need all the help I can get). It seemed to burn fine and the associated mpeg1 file on HD played fine. But, I could not play disc in my Toshiba DVD even though it says VCD player on it. Nor could I play it in Dad's Samsung which also claims to play VCD. I could not even get it to open with my ATI VCD player. It gave me a message that "this player does not support video disc 2.0 playback" or some such thing.

What am I doing wrong, or is it the hardware/software I have? All comment appreciated.

Sounds like a player problem. You could give it another try using CDRW media, which more players can handle.

vcdhelp.com has compatibility lists if you feel like investigating further (worth a look!)

I could understand it not playing in the DVD players but was surprised to not be able to open with the ATI player on my computer. Still soliciting suggestions. Anybody know of a DVD player that has worked for you?

Seems that a few brands of CDRW have worked for others on my Toshiba. Will try. Thanks for the link, although at first I could not get through.

Some DVD players are very picky about what media they can read. The newer models are better, most having dual lasers. My Pioneer 133 set top DVD plays every format on every medium I throw at it. The site SonicEPM mentioned has a very extensive list of DVD players and what format, bitrates they can play. www.vcdhelp.com also rated the Pioneer model #1 some time back. Haven't checked the list for ages.
