Hello,
I am putting together a mobile video capture-to-CD system using a Dell laptop (3GHz P4, 60 Gb 7200 RPM hard drive, 512 Mb RAM, GeForce FX Go5200 AGP 4x graphics card with 32 Mb RAM, UXGA monitor, built-in IEEE1394, etc.) and a Canopus ADVC100 to convert analog video from a high end video camera that my company makes. Question is... what video editing software should I use?
I want to be able to view live video, capture AVI files, add my company's logo as an overlay, and write the resulting AVI files to CD. Ideally I would be able to add the overlay in real time.
Cost is an issue but it is not the biggest issue. The big issue is the time that it takes to learn the software (the users will be overpaid novices) and the time that it takes to render and write the files.
I have heard that Vegas will work well. Do I need Vegas Video 4.0 or can I get away with Screenblast Movie Studio?
Also, I have heard that it is better to have a dedicated hard drive to stream video to. Is it really necessary? I don't expect to capture more than say 10 minutes of full resolution AVI video at a time.
Thanks in advance!!
