Video Effects stopped working in V7

I started to play around with V7. The very first time I used a video effect it worked great. Now it won't work? I read some posts about people activating a bypass button but I'm pretty sure I didn't.
What could I be overlooking??

There is an effects split-screen view button over the preview window which looks like a two-color circle in a rectangle. It's very easy to accidentally click this without realizing it. When you do so, it lets you choose separate areas of the window to show with and without effects. It's also very easy to accidentally set it so that most of the window shows without effects. Click that button and see if they come back.
