Video encoding for iTunes

ScorpioProd wrote on 8/16/2008, 3:48 AM
A local college has asked me to do some video work for them that will be posted on iTunes. The person hiring me really doesn't know anything about the actual formats involved. And I've never made anything to be put on iTunes before. They also mentioned wanting it also for use directly on their website and as a video podcast. (I would think having a lecture on iTunes for students to download would be a video podcast.)

Would I just pick a H.264 template for Video iPod to make something that could be uploaded to iTunes?

Thanks.

I found this on the Apple site:

Making a Podcast

There is a list of "Video Podcast Tutorials" on the right side of that page near the top. If you scan past all of the blatant Quicktime Pro marketing, there are some useful specs at the bottom of this page

I believe all you have to do is use the MainConcept render type with the Apple iPod 640x480 template and that should be perfect for iTunes (since they are designed to be watched on an iPod anyway)

If you look at the bottom of the "Creating a Podcast" link referenced above, it states that the parameters for an iPod are the following:

"iPod can play the following video formats:

- H.264 video, up to 768 kbps, 320 x 240, 30 frames per sec., Baseline Profile up to Level 1.3 with AAC-LC audio up to 160 kbps, 48 Khz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats

- MPEG-4 video, up to 2.5 Mbps, 640 x 480, 30 frames per sec., Simple Profile with AAC-LC audio up to 160 kbps, 48 Khz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats."

Oh great,
Apple ignored half the planet, no 25fps?
