Video Event FX - Media FX

Hi everyone.
This is my first post to the forum. I come from Premiere, witch I grow to hate, and SVP has been a revelation to me (I’m an audio professional but a video amature).

Here is the q:s,
If I use a number of fx on a video event like sharpen color curve - soft contrast and render this, the result is much softer/less detailed.
I have tried almost all formats but the result is the same, much softer.

If I do the same thing in Media FX the result is what I expect it to be.

There ar also huge differences in how the plugs work. It seems like plugs in Media fx makes less off a difference. To get the same (almost) result with Sharpen fx with a setting of aprox 0.9, I have to use two Sharpen fx in Media fx.

Well, I think you have stumbled on a bug.

Added as an Fx, the Sharpen Fx default gets added as 0.000 - but I CAN see sharpening, even thought it is set to ZERO. Intersting. Adding in either Media or Event brings up0 some form of sharpening even though set to ZERO.

So . . . . what you are seeing is some partial Sharpening as a default ZERO - not here it ain't - and when I add to the Event as "Heavy" which in itself is 0.750, I get something similar to just adding the Media Fx.

What do I glean from this? Adding Sharpen in itself is adjusting my footage with some form of additional sharpening, even thought that default is ZERO. If I want to add to Event then I can add Heavy and get something similar. But here's the thing!!! Try just adding "Reset To None"directly from the Fx Pane TO the Event? See what is happening?

My thoughts are that there is some form of sharpening, even with Rest To None. This "result" can be notice even further if in my Project Prefs I remove a deinterlace method.

Interesting,

Grazie

I think if you do some digging you'll find this particular bug being reported in here for the last 6 or 7 versions. It's a pretty old bug.

It's a pretty old bug.

Well then, it should be assigned to some sort of Royalty. Maybe The Royal Highness of Bugs!

So everyone here is happy with the way video event fx works, making rendered files look very blured?
Maybe you dont like sharp pictures, but like them to be out of focus :-)

Could be - I never thought of that.

Silly question -- are you clicking the icon in your Project Properties to "Match Media Settings?"
This is important, do a search.
If your Project Properties are exacty the same as your Media, there is no reason the application of basic effects should look any different in the preview, afaik.
