hello all, i want to try out sonic video factory before i decide to purchase and when i try to install the software it restarts my computer when it gets to the end of the istallation. i don't mean that it tells me to restart. it just automatically restarts by itself. when i get back up an running, all the files are in the Sonic Foundry Folder but i can't launch the software. i am running Windows 2K. any suggestions?

A few of us use EndItAll (free utility) to close all non-vital b/g progs. It's good for use in installing new progs to avoid corruption, and for editing in dv or digi by conserving ram.

I'm not entirely sure Windows 2000 does this, but Windows XP will automatically reboot when it encounters fatal errors (i.e., the infamous Blue Screen of Death). I guess this is how Microsoft can claim that there no more BSOD in XP, your computer just mysteriously reboots instead.

Anyway, this is bad since you don't see an error message and hence have zero idea why your computer decided quit on you.

Like I said, I believe Windows 2000 works the same but I'm not sure. Try following these instructions:
1) Right-click My Computer, and then click Properties.
2) Click the Advanced tab, and then under Startup and Recovery, click Settings (or Startup and Recovery).
3) Uncheck the "Automatic Restart" box.

Hopefully, you will now get an error message that will help you and other people troubleshoot this problem.

While you're there, it might be worth making sure "Write an event to the system log" is checked. Have you had a look in the log for any errors?

Are you logged in as Administrator when you try to install?

ok i tried turning off the automatic reboot in windows and i still cant install this program in windows 2000. is it just my computer that is doing this?

The point of turning off automatic restart is to see if you can read any error messages. Are there any new error messages that weren't there before?

So it’s not just VideoFactory? Other programs won’t install either?

I think you’ve establish that it’s not VideoFactory since other programs won’t install either. I would go to the Microsoft newsgroups and see if someone can help you there. There are several good Guru's who have helped me in the past. It sure sounds like it’s your computer.
