I was wondering....If i change the default setting for dvd PAL ONLY in variable bitrate from (MAXIMUM) 6.000.000 to 9.800.000, (AVERAGE) 6.000.000 to 8.000.000 and (MINIMUM) from 192.000 to 6.000.000 for best picture quality, will my video play in my standalone dvd player (SONY DVP-NS705) or not???

If not, please tell me another way to improve the quality of encoding my dv clips to dvd mpeg2.

Thank you in advance.

Probably not. You also have to allow for the audio in the maximum number. These settings have given me good results:

Move the Quality slider to 31.
VBR settings:
Max: 8,000,000
Min: 2,000,000
Avg: Varies depending on the length of the video and whether you are using AC-3 audio or PCM audio. For me, it is often around 4,800,000.
DC Coefficient: 10 bit
