Video from DV, Audio from Soundcard

I have an ADVC-500 with component in capturing through firewire, through Vegas 4.0 to my PC. The component cable has an optical audio cable which I have connected to my sounblaster optical in slot. I have tested it actually gets the audio fine (i have tested in sound forge).

Can I specifiy, in Vegas Video 4.0, that I want a different audio source instead of DV audio?

Kind Regards
Ryan

For recording only audio you can. As far as I know when you capture from firewire you are only capturing what comes in over the firewire, including the audio, VV does not give you an audio input choice in that case. I am not sure if any of the NLE's do when it comes to firewire capture.

I am not sure why you would even want to do this? You are getting the exact digital signal coming across through the firewire aren't you?

As far as I know the ADVC-500 will mux the audio into the DV stream. If that's the case why do you need to bring the audio in through SPDIF?

I assume you are playing out from say a SP machine, the ADVC-500 will take in the component video and the audio, render the whole thing into a DV stream and send it to the PC via firewire.

A channel on my ADVC-500 was faulty. It was a short term solution really. Still though, i think NLE's should allow you to take the audio and video from different sources if the user wishes :)

Not sure if I'm reading this correctly, but since you don't actually have to use the captured DV audio within Vegas, why don't you just use vegas to record the other audio source (From within the NLE) before/after you capture the video (using the capture program)?
