Video from VCR through Sony MiniDV Cam

I'm trying to record a VCR recording where the VCR is connected to a Sony MiniDV Cam which is then connected to my pc via firewire.

When I try to record, the software starts the tape play of the DV tape
in the camera and will request for a tape if I take the tape out.

Is there a way to just record the pass through VCR recording with this configuration? I don't want to buy a card to connect to the vcr or anything like that. I was wondering if I can do it through the software. Thanks in advance.

If your camera has the A/V->DV capability (the TRV350 does, for example) the camera menu has a selection to turn this on. Make sure you tell the capture program to disable device control (i.e. make it manual).

In the capture program, turn OFF "Enable DV Device Control"

Also, you really don't need a tape in the camera and would be better off removing it.

Go to Video capture
Options/Preferences
Clear 'Enable DV device control'
Have fun

My camera actually requires the tape be removed after av-dv converter is selected in the menu. Then just power up, hit play on the VCR, and hit capture in vidcap when the clip comes up. DGrob
