Video on timeline but doesn't appear in Preview in VP22

Fresh install of VP22 and I recorded some snippets off the OTA TV with my Hauppauge WinTV card to play around with in VP22. One of the files when imported into Vegas Pro 22 shows correctly on the timeline, but video doesn't appear in the Preview window:

This is off of our local PBS station. I tried to attach the clip but it's 28Mb (not sure how to attach a portion of it w/o re-rendering). Any thoughts appreciated!

Thanks for this. Can you upload a sample (28MB is not so large) to Google Drive, Dropbox or another sharing site? If you can't figure that out please message me privately and I can help.

Thanks RogerS. I posted the complete clip on dropbox here. Let me know if anyone has trouble accessing. Thank you!

@Indyman32 and @RogerS, the file played back fine in VP18, 19, 20 using the mxhevcplug.dll. The clip lengths and audio matched. In VP21 using the mxcompoundplug.dll, started playing back ok, but once it got to the advertisement part, the video frames displayed was jumping back to the beginning during playback, although the playhead wasn't doing it. VP22 B192, using I guess a later revision of mxcompoundplug.dll, shows the same timeline as VP21, but no matter what selection in the File I/O I chose, it would not even play back. Black preview.

VP21 note the frame location of the cursor. Not the correct frame being shown.

Magix Movie Studio 2024 Suite and Video Pro X14 played the file back fine. Davinci Resolve Studio 19.1 would not even import the file.

Vegas 13-453 ingested the media with some discontinuity between the video and audio.

A rendered file stalled briefly near the beginning of the video

Plays fine in VP20, but not VP22

Indyman32 wrote on 11/22/2024, 9:18 PM

@john_dennis thanks - I've never heard of that software before will have to check it out. Would stream errors be from the TV signal itself or how its processed by the Hauppauge software after capture? Or both?

@Reyfox - interesting thanks for taking the time to confirm. I just tried the clip in VP21 and it played ok for me (I don't know what plugin I used whatever is default). Strange.

@Former user - thanks for confirming. I know I've pulled OTA video from this TV station before and had no issues in earlier versions of VP. Good to know its not just me!

I tried this file and it quickly goes black in VP 22. MPC Black with LAV encoders is also having trouble with it- I see more video but the audio is at the wrong speed and it stops playing partway through.

With 21 it plays until frame 822 or so and then it repeats without audio.

@Indyman32 The captured variable frame rate of the clip is whats causing an issue with certain versions of Vegas Pro.

Indyman32 wrote on 11/23/2024, 6:43 PM

Thanks @Steve_Rhoden - interesting if that is the case wonder why different versions of Vegas Pro would handle that and some not?

@Steve_Rhoden @Indyman32 I see no evidence of variable frame rate based on the Mediainfo report.

Frame rate                               : 29.970 (30000/1001) FPS

Perhaps you confused the cadence of the GOP?

Turns out I found a solution for myself. I needed to download Avid's DNxHD codecs on their website because that what the codec of my file. If you got the same problem in Vegas, 99% chance you need to download the right codec!

I don't have any knowledge that Videoredo is being offered for sale again. I keep my registration locked in a vault.

TMGPENC Smart Renderer 6 is said to do the same direct stream encoding, and it' now $69 US.
