Video Playback Issue - Split second black screen

I can't figure this out and hope someone here can help.

I have an AVI that I rendered with Camtasia and when I play that AVI file it plays perfect, no issues.

I took that AVI file and put it into Sony Movie Studio so I could just add transition music, I did not touch the content, I just added a music track between chapters and set my markers.

I then rendered as an uncompressed AVI.

The problem is with the uncompressed AVI. When I play that AVI the video and audio plays fine BUT, the screen will go black for a split second and then continue playing. This happened at least 5 or 6 different times in just the first 10-15 minutes of playback. Also, it's not a random black screen, it happens at the exact same spots in the video every time. I also rendered twice (fromt he orginal file) and it still does the same thing.

Since it plays fine from the Camtasia render, something that Sony Movie Studio is doing is causing this.

Can anyone help with this?

Thanks.

first try to render at another format and see if you get the same problems. if yes, then it's an incompatibility of vegas to that first avi file

I'm not an expert in this area like Eugenia/Chienworks/others, but when you mentioned it happens at the exact same spots, I'm wondering if it might have something to do with the 29.97 vs. 30 frames per second thing? In other words, could the source video be something other than 29.97 frames per second, then when you input it into the VMS project (presumably set at 29.97 frames per second), VMS is interpolating black frames now and then?

Just a guess.
