Hi. I'm new to this program. I opened my avi files but i can't preview the video. It's blank.I tried to change to red, histogram, blu etc. but I still can't see it. Can someone tell me how to fix it? I tried to uninstall/install the program but still no video. thanx.
you have to double click the files to put them on the timeline--
or--make sure the preview tab is hilighted so you can see them before you put them on the timeline, but you have to click them once to select it

Thnx but I did that already. Video Preview is highlighted and I double clicked my avi file and the screen is like I said, it's either black, reg, grey, depending on the adjustments I make. It wasn't like this before. Like I said, I uninstalled/reinstalled the program but still the same.
These are my files that I captured off my satellite using huffyuv codec. It used to play before but not anymore. If I double clicked on my avi file,it goes straight to timeline with different colors, and you can't see the video in the preview screen. It's just colors. I tried everything but still the same. Thanx for your reply. Any suggestions?
All my avi files play fine using powerdvd, adobe premiere 6.0, vdub. I just installed picturetotv prog. I capture my video using vdub. Thanx again for your reply. I'm really glad you're helping me fix my problem. Appreciate it.
I'm just guessin that the vdub capture codec you're using has been updated in some fashion and is no longer compatible w/ Vegas.
You might try different codecs to see which gives you the best quality/compression that Vegas supports, or reinstall vdub.
Vegas is optimized for DV captured with Vegas capture. While VV can manage many other formats/codecs, it cannot be all things to all formats. If Vegas is your tool of choice, you may need to find a capture codec that functions well in the Vegas environment; if the codec is the priority, you may need to use the other apps you have noted.
If your Vegas is broken, and doesn't work w/ typical sources (DV, .MOV, .WAV, etc.), there are many resources here to help you get it going.
Thank you so much martyh. My cap avi files are ntsc vcd formats and I solved my problem. I went to file/properties and changed my video setting to ntsc vcd format and it is now working. Now, I'm going to start my first project like adding video transitions. thnx again for following up my problem.
