Video preview does not work - it's just showing a white box

Simplest2remember wrote on 1/26/2023, 12:15 PM

I bought a 1 year licence for Vegas Pro just yesterday, and the first project I did worked

Now I'm trying a second project, but I have a showstopper of a problem - the video preview doesn't work for anything: my videos, VEGAS Hub, Media generator, subtitles, nothing gets displayed. The vegas hub clips don't even render, or the media generator objects, BUT, it does render my own video (from a sony ZV-1 in 1080 25fps) and get a nice video out of it. The audio works fine.

This is the source file I installed: VEGAS_Pro_20.0.0.214_DLV_DE-EN-FR-ES_221013_19-05_4F858A66.exe

What I tried (before returning them to their default values when they didn't work):

1.) Restarted my laptop (Thinkpad X13, 16GB RAM, Intel(R) UHD Graphics, Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-10510U @ 1.8GHz, 1TB SSD, 4K DELL monitor, Windows 10, all up to date with Microsoft)
2.) options - preferences - video - RAM Preview: 0
3.) options - preferences - video - GPU acceleration: OFF
4.) options - preferences - general - OpenCL/GL Interop: Unchecked
5.) options - preferences - deprecated features - Allow Legacy GPU Rendering: Checked

I could not do these because I couldn't find them (Internal tab now missing in v20 preferences)
6.) options - Shift-Click preferences - internal - OpenCL/GL Interop: FALSE
7.) options - Shift-Click preferences - internal - So4 Compound Reader: FALSE
8.) event fx - newblue effect - i - Disable GPU for all products: Checked

Hope someone can help over there.

David

This looks very strange for me.
Where exactly did you buy that license?

Man! 2 minutes after the above comprehensive post, I discovered "compositing", and "opacity", and what the "alpha as greyscale" function does. Surprised that alpha as greyscale is not set back to default when one chooses Window Layouts and sets the layout back to default. I want to leave this open to confirm I can get it all working, and then I will post a comprehensive solution to the above. Not sure what I will do about all my missing hair though. Peace.

I bought it on the Magix website - a steal at 9.99 / month (for a year)

I am nowhere near clever enough to get a cracked version working, in addition to understanding this product.

Actually I installed the trial, and felt tricked that most of the functions I wanted to test were not included in the trial (e.g. test to speech, speech to test, and others. Waste of my time - I never saw a page saying what wasn't included in the trial. -1 for Vegas. The other -1 was that when I bought it, I was sent a license key, but I couldn't find where I was supposed to input it in the program. It took me ages to find out that I needed to just restart the program, then it asks you for the key!! I will avoid swearing here, so easy, when you know how. I think I was lucky on my first project, with compositing just luckily working out without me knowing anything about it:) I realise I will need a few weeks or months to wrap my head around this, and that's fine with me.

To answer my initial post, look up compositing and opacity. This will stop you seeing videos below the highest one in your work area. I realised that subtitles should be at the top, and then your main video below it.

Yes, some features, like the AI text to speech, speech to text, the stock footage and music library, etc. that require VEGAS to pay a third party a subscription fee per user in order to use are not included in the free demos for that reason, it costs VEGAS money.
