Still working on the demo version of VV4. Do I understand this right? If I had a OHCI Firewire card installed instead of my non OHCI Pinnacle card, I could see the preview image in my NTSC external monitor threw the Firewire connection? If yes, is the audio in sync with the video?
Yes, but no audio. The audio will still play through you PC at more or less be in sync if you're not needing down to the 100th of a second or other extreme sync, you can also run a seperate feed to your external monitor, (get a "Y" adaptor) but why?
That depends on your sound card and monitor. My sound card has 1/4" TRS outs and the TV (I don't have a true broadcast monitor) has RCA, so I have a cable with these ends.
To connect a external monitor you need a firewire card, and either a digital camera or a black box that takes cares of the signal. The cable depends on your device.
For example my camera requires a 4 pin firewire cable while the firewire card needs a 6 pin (or 8?)
That's one of the mysteries of Vegas, and you're not the first one to ask. You will get both video and audio when printing to tape, but previewing is video only.
Just a guess... why have a second stream for audio when you can already here it from your PC speakers? That would only further slow down the 'real time' playback speed. If you must do it like I said, very simple to add a "Y" adapter from you audio out and feed it to your external monitor.
Great. After reading this "Xth" post regarding external previewing, I decided I could try again considering I just installed Vegas4. And guess what? I plugged my camera thru FireWire output and as soon as I turn the cam on, the whole V4 app freezes. WhY ??? And I haven't plugged my TV set to the cam yet; I was just checking if I could see something in the cam's lcd screen.
So far, ext preview worked once for a while around one year ago with VV3 for me. I unplugged it then when I did the exact same thing to set it back later it never worked again... In fact, it gets so much on my nerves that I never try to get through the entire process of debugging the whole thing. I imagine one day I'll wake up and decide to get through it 'til I drop...
At least, if we could just use a TV Out graphic card option... but the preview window in Vegas isn't taken in charge by the system as a "common player" so it doesn't work either...
Yes, writing to Microsoft could be a good idea.
Ok. I re-installed DirectX 9 on my computer and the preview option came back BUT I have to "build dynamic RAMs" to get decent previews otherwise I get these gray squares and pops'n'cracks in sound.
Well, that's about it. I'll try switching the preview to "draft" quality which I don't really like just to see if it works a little better.
But I'd still like to get the preview window access to my DualHead card so I could preview through my graphic card instead of 1394 (or should I say "697" which is **half** of 1394?) ;)
Just wondering. Did you attach the audio cables from the deck to the TV? Firewire does export both audio and video at the same time. I have had no problems with it ever. Plus no one asked if you forgot to attach the audio cables. I know I always forget something.
That sucks. I know in dealing with Premiere and Final Cut Pro that they both allow the user to record everything and see everything when playing it back out. It doesnt take a print to tape commad. Sounds like it is a program issue. Thats to bad.
