Video preview window

The preview window remains black when I play a video. I have the latest version of Quicktime installed and I have clicked on the window and tried all of the settings. The video shows up in the timeline and the sound plays. I have tried various videos most of them from a Sony Bloggie. The video displays in the trimmer. Can't think of anything else. Tried Googling for information to no avail. I admit I am new to the program.TIA. Windows 7 Intel core 1.7 cpu 860@ 2.8 ghz 8 gigs ram

"The video displays in the trimmer."

In the Trimmer pane, right-click and Uncheck "Show video in Preview"
Also post your Vegas version.

I am using version 10. I have Steve Grisetti's book which to be honest I am finding hard going. I am an experienced Photoshop user so I know I can learn this type of program. To add further. When using the time line should I be able to view the clip using the controls below the time line? I can see the clip in the trimmer - and it moves - using the controls below the trimmer. I tried your suggestion and it didn't make a difference. The screen remains blank but there is sound. The clip shows in the preview window in trimmer but when I try to use the controls below the time line the screen goes blank. Thanks for your reply.

Do you also have the split screen button above the preview activated? You shouldn't.
The trimmer and the split screen button are by far the two most common reasons for the problem you described.

For the life of me I couldn't find the split screen function. However I found the solution to my problem. Under options I had clicked Mute all Video. A lesson learned. Thanks for your input.
No doubt I will be back again for more advice!

The split screen mode is available only in Vegas Pro (not VMS)
