Video Stabilization - funny behavior

adimatis wrote on 5/10/2020, 3:09 PM

Hi all,

Is it me or indeed the Vegas Video Stabilization has some... instabilities? :)

When editing in timeline, after applying the plug-in as Media FX to a portion of the clip (made previously into a sub-clip) it plays very very jerky.

But when rendering, it shows as it does a proper stabilization. Watching the exported clip that is.

Does that happens to you too sometimes? Is it normal? I did not have that problem with the old Stabilize plug-in...

Thanks!

BTW, is this plug-in and process (suppose to be) GPU accelerated?

Which stabilizer and which version and build are you talking about?

Vegas Video Stabilization plug-in, in the v17, latest build 421.

Vegas Stabilize (old plug-in) is ok.

Thanks,

When editing in timeline, after applying the plug-in as Media FX to a portion of the clip (made previously into a sub-clip) it plays very very jerky.

No need to add that FX to a clip as MediaFX, but one of the advantages of this new one is that it can be added at an event (whole clip or part of) on the timeline.

Ok, thanks...

What does that mean for my question?

Are you saying if I don't apply as Media FX it will be playing nice and smooth?

Because it ain't...

Or are you saying... what are you saying then? :) Normal or not...?

j-v wrote on 5/11/2020, 7:42 AM

Playing nice and smooth has to come after rendering with such a heavy FX, but on my weakest machine (laptop) the very tiny jerks in preview full don't barder me as long it is not "very very jerky"(your words). Look

Thanks, I appreciate it!

In my case, it is much "jerkier" indeed. I do not mind really, as long as I know it will not be present in the final rendered clip. It is just weird and unsatisfactory. ;)

I will try to post a short clip here, once I am back at my working computer.

Thanks again!

Well, forget the jerkiness.

Now I cannot open the project anymore! :( :( :(

VEGAS Pro video stabilization still far from perfect. It will jerk if theres like a poll run across the frame. Pr can tackle such video easily.

@adimatis Please write something in the description. So it is easier to find your specific report (otherwise it is grouped)

@alifftudm95 Please send me your file. We would like to improve the algorithm. PM is coming.

@VEGASPascal Hi, thanks for chime in. This "jerkiness" - for the lack of a better word - really seems to have been some sort of symptom for something more serious. I hope I will not have another crash like this, but please have a look at this thread I started this afternoon: https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/project-not-opening-crash-at-42-loading--120650/
