Video Stabilize Fail

Sithi-Nerngchamnong wrote on 11/22/2018, 1:00 AM

Hi. Just FYI, I am new to video editing and have just started using vegas studio 15 for the first time.

My current software use is Movie Studio 15 (build146). My laptop spec is running core i7-8850h / ram16gb / nvidia quadro1000 / Window 10pro.

Video footage I am working with is from Gopro hero6 in 4k.

I have been trying to use fx stabilize on my footage. Some of footage can be stabilized, but most of my footage is failed to do so. The stabilize will either run to 30-90% then the program will crash. I have tried shorten the time in each footage and reduce the pan smoothing and stabilize amount hoping hoping that it will work. Unfortunately it's not.

Is there any setting I need to adjust prior to stabilizing the 4k footage? Please recommend.

Known error, the Mercalli 2 stabilizer, which is the basis of the Vegas stabilizer, seems not to be able to stabilize 4k footage. Sometimes it works, but mostly it causes a program crash.

From your error message I can read that you use the Platinum version.
For that one is the latest build 157.

Try that one, with me it stabilizes a more than 3 minutes 4K 25fps GOPro file in it's total with Vegas Stabilizer as well as Prodad Mercalli 4 plugin without a problem.

BTW.
It is not my habit to stabilize big files, mostly I cut it in pieces and stabilize only the part(s) with heavy or extreme shaking.

The build has nothing to do with the stabilizer, even VegasPro, which uses the same Mercalli 2 stabilizer, crashes at some 4k clips.

I have updated my build to 157 like you have mentioned. It still does not work no matter how small I have cut my footage. Is there any particular setting that you have adjusted to make it work?

If yours does not work, how do you manage to stabilize your footage? Is there any other program I should use?

I use the Mercalli 4 plugin which I got with VegasPro14 and which also works in VMS14/15. This stabilisation Plugin is is much faster and better than the built-in, and works also with 4k. Unfortunately to buy this Plugin directly from Prodad, is quite expensive.

Not that I know, it is on the laptop from my signature.
One thing is not default with my settings: I disabled the automatic building of proxies in Options/Preferences/Video. I 'll show you on the screengrab of my stabilisation in VMS 15 Pl with its own stabilizer on a GOPro 5 Black 4K 25p file.

Also proxies has nothing to do with stabilisation crash. As stabilisation is attached as an mediaFX, always the original Media is stabilized, not the proxy. That the stabilisation works on one 4k clip is no guarantee that it works on all 4k clips. I tested 4k clips from several cameras, till now I couldn't find the reason why one clip gets stabilized and the other causes a complete crash.
