As a journeyman musician and composer who has only come more recently to video production, I find it perfectly natural to initially block out (storyboard) certain videos on music manuscript paper. The rich language of music notation has many symbols and gestures that are quite applicable to video or the stage. Storyboarding on manuscript paper also allows me to jot down musical phrases or chord progressions that I think will work well for the finished soundtrack. As both video producer and soundtrack composer I can sometimes let the image drive the story telling while at other times fitting the image to follow the logic of the soundtrack.
Having the soundtrack as a major structural feature can also be helpful if the video is also going to have a separate (re-edited) life as a podcast.
