Video to Image problem

Can anyone tell me if I can render a single shot of a video to a .jpg, .png or some other image format, or suggest the best way to capture a screen shot of a video to use as a bitmap in another application? I have been having trouble getting it to work; it seems to be continuing to play the video through the graphics card so the screen shot is a window to the active video. I know there most be a setting I’m missing.

Put the cursor on the frame you want and click on the "save snapshot" button above the preview window. If the button is not active, turn off external preview. You may also want to change the preview mode temporarily to Best (Full).

Thank You so much, It’s kind of embarrassing when sometimes the answer is so simple it's directly under you nose and don't even know it. You know I'm still learning Vegas and I tend to grow more every day thanks to stupid questions like this and nice people like yourself to answer them.

It worked liek a champ, thanks again.

I have been saving images from the timeline for a while and save as a .png. When I create a DVD cove background with the saved .png it becomes "fuzzy" and slightly blocky when I blow it up the DVD cover size. These png's lately have been taken off the timeline of a movie (analog) I captured off one my old VHS tapes. Is there any way to enhance the quality of the png so the resolution would be good for a DVD cover print, printed with a R800 Epson printer. I know it's usually quality in quality out, but I just thought I would ask.

First make sure you are grabbing the stills at Best (Full) so they come out at 720x480

They will always be too low-res to get a sharp print on a DVD cover at full size, but you can sharpen them a little bit in your photo editing program, or combine multiple stills to create a collage.

If you grabbed a dozen stills you could make brady bunch style grid or something. There's a lot you can do if you get creative. :)
