For starters, make the frame rate of your render the same as the frame rate of your media.

sorry total newbie here but quite good at just learning stuff like this on the fly.
Where is the option to set the frame rate when I am ready to make the movie?
thanks

Follow the tutorials that came with your software. Sorry but I don't have time tonight to walk you through this step by step. Best of luck, maybe someone else has more time.

Let's start with your project properties. Go to File>Properties. When the window opens up toward the upper right hand corner there's an icon that will say "match media" when you run your mouse over it. Cick that button and navigate on your computer to the source file(s) for your project. When you click the Open button, VMS will analyze your file and set the project properties to match it's frame size and frame rate.
When you click Make Movie you'll have a drop down of choices-some of these will have = signs next to them. Pick the format you want (AVC, WMV, etc) and select the one with the = sign next to it. That should automatically give you the correct frame rate and other aspects.
There's other ways to do this and the necessity of matching project properties to source files is debated at times on this forum. This is just to get you started in the right direction. If you don't understand something, please ask. We can't always get to you as quickly as we'd like, but someone will get back to you as soon as possible. Enjoy your software, you're in for quite a ride!
