Virtual versus real copies of media files

Hello,

I have a Project which is 4,2 Gb. Some large media files are copied (virtually) several times to create a complex menu scheme. That is no problem because DVD Architect only puts one instance of each file on the DVD. I spent many hours of work on this menu scheme.

Now I want to burn the thing and it complains about some subtitles being to complex. They are probably just to long. But if I start editing the subtitles, DVD Architect wants to create an extra instance of the (changed) media file on the DVD. After just 6-7 edits, the Project grew to 7 Gb.

How do I edit the subtitle so it changes in the main instance of a file, and thereby changes in every (virtual) copy?
Do I have to throw away the hours spent on the menu system, to go back to the situation before I copied all those media files?

Please help!

If it helps...

What I try to do is insert the vid once at a higher level then the menu(s) in the tree -- then insert empty buttons & link them to the vid. DVDA 4 is smart enough to know you're using a duplicate if you drag the same vid to separate menus, but once you start altering an attached vid (thru subs or audio) then other instances are no longer duplicates, at least in my experience with DVDA.

If I understand your problem correctly, I think what I'd try to do after saving the project under a new name (protecting work you've done)... I'd move the main video to higher up on the tree rather then under the menu. Then depending on what's easier based on menu/graphics complexity, fix one menu, then create new ones based off it, copy/pasting other elements/buttons as needed - or - replace button/link to vid with new one.

Stupid question: When you say the subs are too long, any chance at all of changing font (narrow?) &/or sizes to fit within alloted shape/space? Would enlarging/repositioning allotted space help?
