Vista 64 and Vegas + mouse zoom

Editguy43 wrote on 1/24/2009, 5:35 PM
I just installed Vista 64 on my Quad core machine and put Vegas 8c and 8.1 on there is nothing else installed in the computer. Seems to be very fast Vegas loads much faster now but I have discovered a problem, when i have events on the timeline I cannot wheel the mouse to zoom the timeline like i could yesterday in XP it does not work in either 8c or 8.1. Has anyone else had this problem. I use the mouse wheel to zoom all the time and cannot live witthout it.

Please help if you can

What mouse do you have? Perhaps in XP you had installed the manufacturer's drivers for it but in Vista 64 you didn't. Also, there are some mice that behave differently in the Vegas' timeline when it comes to the wheel, some Microsoft models.

I have the Microsoft natural wireless laser 6000 and up until i installed vista 64 it worked just fine it still works fine on my amd machine with xp and movie studio 8. so it must be vista 64 i will try to find a driver for it.

I downloaded the vista 64 version of the mouse driver and it is still doing the same thingif i scroll the mouuse very fast it will sluggishly zoom the timeline. it is very frustrating I use that feature allthe time it is one main reason that i love vegas so much. Pleas help

Have you had a look at |Control Panel|Mouse - should be a setting there for Scroll Wheel behaviour.

I have exactly the same issue. I am using Vista 64 and a microsoft laser 5000 mouse. I have the correct and most recent mouse driver installed. playing with the scroll settings in the control panel does not solve the issue. If the mouse wheel is turned slowly or at "normal speed" no zooming occurs. If it is spun madly then zooming occurs in a very uncontrolled fashion.

That's exactly the one that I bought at one point and I ended up returning it because of this reason, among others. Plus the tracking wasn't so good. But I installed the Microsoft drivers for Vista 64 and nothing changed. So I recommend that you buy a Logitech, it has better tracking and all of them work fine in Vegas.

Just for fun plugged in a old logitech and it worked fine wheel zoom is as it should be. I use the microsoft mouse because it causes less wrist strain but I do agree that is not very accurate and vista 64 and vegas is not a good fit for it "go figure microsoft device in a microsoft OS not working right" :-)

does anyone have recomendation for mouse that would help relieve strain but that will work correctly in vegas.

Kensington Expert Mouse Model # K64325. That should do you well- works great for me in 64 bit Vista.

Logitech mice are good when it comes to tracking, but I've had problems with the wireless ones. I've had the MX600, which should be a fantastic mouse, but the left button sometimes doesn't work, and also sometimes the pointer freezes for a second or two. I returned three and I had the same problem with all three of them. I had the receiver about one foot away from the mouse with nothing in between. I don't know, I may have something in my room interfering, but I went back to use my old Logitech mini optical mouse which is wired and simple, but it works great and doesn't freeze.

Logitech has the MX400 model, which is rather ergonomic and wired, you might want to check it out.
