VLOG-L for the Panasnic GH4 is a $99 update. However if you update your firmware to version 2.3, you can then select VLOG-L using the Panasonic Image App on a smartphone or tablet. The setting is lost when you power off the camera, but if you save it to a custom profile (C1 etc.) then it will be remembered without having to use the app.
I expect the Image App and/or the firmware will be updated very soon to close this loophole (assuming it really was a blunder and not some backwards marketing ploy), but the existing version of the app can be backed up or set not to auto-update.
Nothing illegal here as it's not a hack. Perhaps not strictly ethical but it's a useful way to test out VLOG-L before paying the $99.
p.s. I didn't discover this. It has been plastered all over every GH4 resource on the net today.
