VM Studio HD 9.0 cant import large MP4 file?

I have been using "Vegas Movie Maker HD 9.0" for awhile to edit my HD videos that I record with my Flip HD. In the past all of my videos have been under 11 minutes long, but the past 2 times I tried to edit longer videos (each around 30 minutes long) VMM tells me that the file type is "Unknown" when I try and import it and gives me an error "Warning: an error occured while opening one or more files. The reason could not be determined". This has happened for ONLY the two large files (which clock in at about 2GB each) they are in MP4 format, however my shorter videos are also MP4 format but they still can be imported and edited fine.
I tried importing these videos into pinnacle studios, and while the program recognizes them and I get audio, the program itself is giving me audio and video lag problems, so I can't even use that. I have tried using "Media Quick Converter" to convert my file from MP4 into AVI, but everytime I try the program crashes telling me that "Windows Internet Explorer has stopped working properly and the program must be closed", happens everytime and I can't complete a conversion.
Any ideas how to fix this?

This is a known bug with Vegas and MP4 files over 2 GB. I think it was fixed in the latest Pro 9, but it's not fixed on all other versions.

Since I have Vegas Movie Maker 9.0, can I find a patch/DL somewhere to fix this problem? If you could a directly link to somewhere reliable that I can download this patch/fixwould be greatly appreciated!

There is no patch/fix for these Vegas versions. You just need to use another editor, or find a utility that cuts in two the file, preferably without re-encoding (if the MP4 was encoding with the streaming bit ON).

Sony has been very slow to address issues with AVCHD and format compatibility.

You can try to re-render your footage using one of many conversion software out there like Super, Format Factory, etc.

As a last resort you may want to try and download Corel Video Studio X3 demo and see if that works for you. It's a full 30 day working demo.
