You can all see for yourself by using the 30 days full trial.

tcrankwa wrote on 2/26/2017, 9:51 AM

I assume the answer is "no" then since I've already purchased it and no sound editor is included. I'll get a refund.

Thanks.

Vegas is not only a good video editor.
As sound editor its suites me more than enough.

tcrankwa wrote on 2/26/2017, 10:15 AM

I was using Sound Forge in VMS 10 until they decided not to honor Sony's authentification any longer which is why I purchased VMS 14 Suite. If there's no sound editor in 14 I'd just as soon use a video editor I can see as 14 is extremely dark.

Along those lines, since they don't answer emails, anybody have an idea how to return their product for a refund?

So you have an audio editor.
That one can be used in Vegas Movie Studio when the program is started as administrator.
I'm not able to control that in VMS 10, because that version I uninstalled.
In VMS 13 and 14 it works as desired, look

I'm very fond of Sound Forge that I've been using in VMS 10 but I can no longer use it since the Authorization Code is no longer recognized by Magix.

Yes, I am aware that I can open it by starting it as Admin but why do I need to interrupt my workflow in this fashion? I've been using wavepad (which is fine and I'm still using) but, honestly, using the term "Suite" one would think it would contain everything needed.

I'm considering abandoning it for Adobe Premiere.

It's a work thing. I just don't have time to deal with it.

tcrankwa wrote on 2/26/2017, 2:31 PM

Cornico, where did you get Sound Pro 11? Did you have to purchase it seperately?

Cornico wrote on 2/26/2017, 2:49 PM

It's been FUBAR since Sony let go and I'm considering abandoning it for Adobe Premiere.

I think that I'm waisting my time.

Not at all, I just don't know where else to turn. Nobody seems to know anything about their product or how to fix it. Perhaps it's a language problem? They seem to not have a problem sending me info about new products to purchase but seem to be deaf to me when I ask how to fix the software I've already bought. I bit the bullet and bought their newest offering (likie they kept asking) and I'm unable to get product support and it's only two days old!

The truly unfortunate part is they charged me TWICE for the software and now are unable or unwilling to discuss it with me.

I can't fathom how I'm the one out of line here. I'm on deadline with software that doesn't work correctly and the beneficiary of my investment seems to have skipped. What would you suggest?

There is no difference in the workflow using Sound Forge from VMS14 compared to older versions.

If there is a problem with authentification, check your Magix account where the licenses of former SCS products were migrated. If the serial given by the Magix account doesn't work no more, contact Magix support and request a support ticket.

tcrankwa wrote on 2/26/2017, 6:43 PM

"Choose your wording in respect of the forum rules!" <--- I am assuming this means don't ask any of those "hard" software questions?

The workflow is the same? How is it the same when trying to edit audio and the program you purchased with your "Suite" won't launch without saving your audio as an mp3, exiting VSM 14 so you can launch your audio editor using administrative privileges because your software author is unwilling or UNABLE to repair his code?

This is totally my fault. I should've stuck with a Reputable company.

Please issue a refund for both VMS 10 and 14 and stop all the spam, ok? You're not worth it.

What would you suggest?

Show behaviour or go to Adobe.😁

Marco. wrote on 2/26/2017, 7:03 PM

In VMS14 sending the source of an audio event to Sound Forge works exactly same way as it did in former versions of Movie Studio and same is for the audio formats supported by this workflow. The audio file types supported by this workflow don't depend on VMS but on Sound Forge, e.g. I can easily send audio events containing Wave or AAC to Sound Forge Pro 10 (which is the Sound Forge version I have installed).

Please try the steps I described above:
Check your Magix account to see which serial is provided for your Sound Forge license and if this serial doesn't work, contact Magix support and open a support ticket. If you already opened a support ticket - which number is it?

tcrankwa wrote on 2/26/2017, 7:25 PM

LOL! I don't how else to explain it! I have the preferred audio editor set to Sound Forge. When I ask to "edit a copy" the registration pops up and I enter the key again and again and again and again as it has since Sony left. I had to purchase a different editor

I've asked for help several times - again today. Nothing. Nada. Bupkus.

I was in the process of ordering Corel Studio since I am one of their vendors. I could have saved the last six months of frustration had I chosen wiser.

I just can't waste any more of my time waiting for you to fix your product.

Interesting about SF Audio Studio 10. I have v10 installed as well. I typically use it offline, but went to check to confirm one way or another. In my menu (right clicking on a wav file) it has 2 options including 'open copy to Sound Forge XP. And then I get an error message saying, the specified audio editor can not be opened ('folder path'). The location is correct and is the same one set up in the preferences window. What makes this interesting is that I get the same error in Vegas Movie Studio 12! I can open up SF Audio Studio 10 directly without issue.

If you don't see Sound Forge in your list of "My Products" at https://www.magix.com/us/support/my-service-center/ then you may need to manually register it using the "Product registration" link on that page. If you do see it then make sure you're using that serial number.

I am having the same exact problem.  Prior to installing VMS 14 I was using VMS 10 with Sound Forge 10.  When I purchased VMS 14 I assumed an updated version of Sound Forge would be included or another replacement editor.  That is not the case.  I was not concerned when i realized no audio editor was included as SF 10 is really all I need.  So I set SF10 to be my default editor in VMS 14 and like tcrankwa, I get the same error when trying to launce SF10 within VMS 14.  Additionally, I can no longer launch SF10 from within my older version VMS 10.  Ironically I can launch any other exe file from within VMS 14, even MS Paint.  The only program it will not open from within VMS if Sound Forge.

Looking on the internet there is a known issue with SF 10 requiring admin rights to run due to a MS Windows update some time back.  I tried every hack out there, including reinstalling SF as an admin, but the problem persists. The problem is really with SF and not VMS.  VMS launches the SF exe, but doesn't know how to handle the UAC prompt for admin rights so it errors out. Since SF is still on version 10 and I own version 10, there is no point in buying it again.

For now I downloaded the free Audacity and told VMS to open it instead, which works perfectly except for one thing.  It requires to save a new version of the media which then has to be added back into your project.  I have no doubt that a programmer could fix the code in SF that corrects the registry keys on install in about 10 minutes.  But seeing as this has been a reported problem for several years, they either don't understand the problem or don't care.  And yes!  I opened a detailed support ticket and never received a response.

@Markk655 and @Tony_P.
Did you not only launche Sound Forge as admin but especially Vegas?
That program must get the rights to open Sound Forge.

Cornico,

I am embarrassed to say I never thought of starting VMS as an admin to get around the admin prompt for SF, but it works!  The solution is simple and brilliant, and as an IT professional I am ashamed I missed it (LOL).  Here I am changing registry setting and file permissions and a simple right lick on the VMS icon solved the problem.

Tcrankwa,

Try running VMS as an admin and then try opening SF.  I think you will find your problem solved.  Right click the VMS icon, left click Run as administrator and you should be good to go, You can set VMS to always run as admin in the advanced settings when right clicking the icon.

@tcrankwa - Here is the resolution for the "activation loop" issue you described.

Close the program if it is running.

Next, open the Registry Editor. To do this on Windows, press the Windows key and R together on your keyboard. In the window that appears, type REGEDIT and press Enter. If prompted, allow the program to make changes to your computer.

In the Registry Editor, navigate to the following directory:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SOFTWARE > Wow6432Node > Sony Creative Software > [Program Name] > [Version Number] > License

Right-click the License folder ONLY and select Delete. If prompted, confirm you wish to delete the folder.

Once the folder has been deleted, close the Registry Editor.

Launch the program again.  You should be prompted to enter your serial number.

Ok, now the loop has changed but a loop just the same. I'm trying to use the "open copy in editor" from VMS 14.

WavePro works fine but I'd really like to get Sound Forge working. Any other options? I'm a bit skittish on throwing good money after bad with Sound Forge 11.

Did you try opening VMS as an admin by right clicking on the VMS icon?

@Cornico What an easy solution! I had set that up for Sound Forge awhile back, but never thought to do it for VMS. Thanks!
